KeymasterMy question is: I am aware of four practices:
* Being aware of awareness
* Watching that there are no stories
* Watching identification
* Watching grasping and resistanceThe question is: Do you consider these practices as important, and do you recommend other practices.
Maybe other practices could be meditation and/or hearing and being in contact with the teachings.Magdi
GuestDear Jenny,
Being aware of awareness sounds like work and effort. I prefer a different wording, such as: resting as awareness. It is more of a non-doing, a sort of relaxation, an abandonment of the ongoing habitual doership of the mind. When it comes to the non-dual understanding, the less we do, the better it is.
These various practices you mention arise naturally out of our interest and love for truth. We become interested in understanding and freedom. We start to notice the inherited and learned tendencies to react, to engage in the me-thought, to play the blame and victimhood game.
The stories that you mention are thoughts and narratives rooted in the belief that consciousness is separate and limited, rooted in the belief that you are a body mind entity and that you exist in time and space. Our interest in freedom from reactivity leads us to investigate these beliefs. To understand the mechanism which gives rise to these tendencies.
Our interest in truth deepens and takes us to the source of the virus of separation. We may discover that the sense of separation is rooted in the identification of consciousness with phenomena, in particular with a body mind phenomenal entity. This identification is limiting and unhappy.
Once phenomenal identification is on board, the sense of limitation is established and engages the mechanisms of defense and seeking. Grasping and resistance maintain the me-belief and me-feeling. Noticing these tendencies to resist and seek and exploring the path of non-engagement is an important aspect of the path. The path reveals itself to you as your interest in truth is steady. It is a natural process with no personal doership.

In the scriptures, the non-dual path refers to various stages: Hearing the teaching, contemplating the scriptures, meditation and living according to your understanding. Remember, the teacher appears as the student appears. The answer appears with the question.
Keep in mind that the teaching is metaphoric and only points to the truth, which is beyond words and beyond mind. A finger pointing to the moon.
Love of truth is the path and reveals love to be the destination.Much love.
